do good.

blooms4good is a small but mighty squad of do-gooders, growing flowers in central virginia to raise money and awareness for local non-profits. kate and kira met in the summer of 2023 – kira had an established flower farm in barboursville, va and was looking for an outlet for her blooms while also wanting to do some good. meanwhile, kate had launched blooms4good the year prior – she was inspired by the potential her small gordonsville flower farm could have in the community and decided to leverage her garden to raise money for local non-profits. her first event was the fall of 2022.

the blooms4good team hit the ground running in 2023, popping up at local vineyards and breweries – selling flower arrangements in vases donated by friends and family, filled with flowers grown with so much love – some blooms were even donated by other local growers! kate and kira covered all expenses so that every dollar could go to charity.

this past 2024 season, the blooms and generosity of flower lovers primarily supported International Neighbors (helping refugee families get settled & connected in the charlottesville) and SAFE (a shelter for victims of domestic violence – based in culpeper and serving the surrounding rural counties).  in 2023 we primarily raised funds for SHE. the team also joins other charities as fundraising opportunities arise.

during the 2023 and 2024 seasons we covered all the costs (soil, land, seeds, supplies). with big dreams to elevate this project and ensure that it is sustainable, grow our squad, and do even more good - this 2025 season we have moved forward in establishing blooms4good as a nonprofit corporation. we will continue to donate every flower penny raised to our local non-profit partners (as well as our time, sweat and energy) but have added an option to donate directly to blooms4good to help support our operating efforts.

Kira Rose

kira was born in charlottesville, and grew up on a working farm in somerset before venturing off to college. after about 15 years away from home, she made her way back to the place she loves, with her best friend will, and two blonde babes in tow. kira and crew landed in albemarle co., nestled between some gorgeous farms of rolling hills and hay bales, not far from gordonsville.

“by day” kira is a pediatric physical therapist, working in the public school setting to support exceptional students who are so joyful and brave. as soon as the bell rings, she is off to scoop her own girls and get them to all of the things and drive to all of the places, and sometimes sneak in a walk with a friend or a quick trip to the farm.

the farm is on family land in barboursville, and is where all of the magic happens! it is an ongoing story of learning, and experimenting, and growing (in more ways than one), and bumping along. and it is all hands on deck! it is not uncommon to have the girls be-bopping around the blooms, their grandmothers weeding and watering, and will “fixing something”.

kira is immensley grateful for this project that keeps her in the fresh air, watching bumbles and butterflies, and smelling flowers. she feels that sharing space with other lady flower farmers and the community support for this GOOD project is what dreams are made of.

technically Kathryn Rose :)

kate is originally from michigan - she made her way to the south for grad school studying interior design in savannah, after which she joined a dc architecture firm in 2011. she relocated to gordonsville in 2017 and works remotely for the same awesome company as a commercial designer focused on healthcare and higher education projects. she believes deeply that the built environment can truly be a catalyst for change - healing, learning, nurturing others, building community - it never gets old!

she balances her ‘day job’ with time outdoors - whether hiking with friends, hanging with her coonhounds, training for triathlons, or of course, time in the garden.

her parents are the biggest instigators for all of this - their passion for growing things, exploring and loving our planet, helping others and finding magic in all things. kate’s mom planted peonies for her in virginia, divided from her childhood home; her dad’s humming in the veggie garden: “inch by inch, row by row” all through her childhood is on constant repeat in her flower field. to this day, they visit to help prune, weed, prep, plant, encourage and nurture this labor of love.

kate loves the community she has found in this sweet little town, and is wildly grateful for all the things that brought her to this place.
